Verified Burg Forst

Stadtallendorf, Germany, Germany

Burg Forst is a vanished medieval lowland water castle located on the deserted medieval settlement of Wüstung Forst at a forest edge east of Stadtallendorf in Hesse, Germany, near the Herrenwald between Niederklein and Neustadt.

Likely built around 1283 by Ludwig de Forest and later owned by the Lords of Gleimenhain until it became desolate by 1478, the roughly square fortification measured about 16 meters per side with a 4-meter rectangular building inside, surrounded by a preserved water ditch and faint overgrown wall traces of a ring wall and residential tower.

Today, the site at 265 meters elevation serves as an earthwork burgstall with an information board, inviting quiet hikes through woodland without above-ground structures, blending into the rural landscape near other local ruins like Burg Waffensand.
