Burg Frauenberg
Germany, Germany
Burg Frauenberg is a medieval castle ruin located in Frauenberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, built before 1327 by the Counts of Sponheim to secure their Nahe River crossing and regional estates.
From 1331, it primarily served as a widow's seat for Countess Loretta of Sponheim after her husband's death, featuring a rectangular layout on a mountain spur with corner towers and thick defensive walls up to 2.5 meters.
Destroyed in 1673 during the Wildfangfehde conflict by French-Lorraine troops, the site preserves two towers and remnants of its former grandeur, now owned by Rhineland-Palatinate and accessible for hikes amid scenic Nahe Valley terrain.
