Burg Kipfenberg
Kipfenberg, Germany, Germany
Burg Kipfenberg is a medieval hilltop castle overlooking the town of Kipfenberg in Bavaria, Germany, in the scenic Altmühl Valley. Built in the 12th century, it served as a fortified residence and later became an important property of the Bishopric of Eichstätt after being sold to it in 1301. Over the centuries, the castle was expanded and strengthened, surviving major conflicts such as the Peasants’ War and the Thirty Years’ War. Although parts of it fell into ruin during the 18th and 19th centuries, it was extensively restored between 1914 and 1925, giving it much of its present appearance. Today, Burg Kipfenberg is a prominent local landmark. The main castle remains privately owned, while the outer bailey houses the Roman and Bavarian Museum, making the site a popular destination for visitors interested in regional history and culture.
