Burg Klempenow near Bartow in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, stands as the region's only preserved lowland castle, built around 1240-1250 as a Pomeranian border fortress on a flood-sand island amid the marshy Tollense and Landgraben river confluence by the Lower Saxon von Heydebreck family.

Featuring an 8.8-meter-high, 3-meter-thick ring wall, one surviving 25.5-meter round corner tower from its original four, and early brick construction typical of the 13th century, it endured conquests by Swedes in 1631—who granted it to General Dodo von Knyphausen for expansions—and later Prussians after 1720, losing military role post-Seven Years' War.

After 19th-20th century agricultural use, wartime changes, and demolitions like the main building in 1920, the restored medieval core now serves as a cultural monument showcasing phased alterations through the 17th century.
