Burg Klöden
Jessen, Germany, Germany
Burg Klöden is a historic castle and former Saxon chamber estate in the Klöden district of Jessen (Elster), Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, built on Slavic fortifications from around 700 AD and one of Germany's oldest Burgwarde sites first documented in 965 when Emperor Otto I granted its honey tithe to Magdeburg Monastery.
Likely erected under Henry I in the early 10th century to counter Slavic incursions and Hungarian raids along the Elbe, it evolved through Renaissance expansions in 1566 under Jobst Kanne and Baroque modifications around 1684 by the Löser family, who owned it until selling to Elector Frederick Augustus I in 1781.
Damaged by Swedish forces in 1637 and floods in 2002, the protected riverside complex now operates as Burggaststätte Burg Klöden, offering dining amid its monumental legacy.
