Burg Landeck
Teningen, Germany
Burg Landeck in Teningen, Germany, is a medieval hill castle built around 1250/60 by the Geroldseck family, who were protectors of the Schuttern monastery.
It was strategically located on a limestone ridge overlooking the region to control local territories and protect monastic holdings. The castle complex is divided into the upper and lower castle, stretching about 110 meters in length, featuring a tall main residential building with multiple floors, fireplaces, and large windows, along with strong surrounding walls and a deep defensive ditch.
The castle passed to the Snewlin family in the late 14th century, who divided ownership and later sold it to the Margraves of Baden in the early 16th century.
It suffered severe damage during the Peasants' War in 1525 and was not rebuilt, resulting in its gradual ruin. Today, the ruins are well preserved and accessible, maintained by a local association, offering insight into the castle’s medieval fortifications and architectural features.
