Burg Lißberg
Ortenberg, Germany, Germany
Burg Lißberg is a medieval castle ruin on a volcanic hilltop in Lißberg, part of Ortenberg municipality in Hesse's Wetteraukreis district, Germany.
Founded in the 12th or 13th century by the Lords of Lißberg and first documented in 1222, it controlled regional trade routes until the family's extinction in 1396, after which most structures decayed, leaving primarily the massive 27-meter-high bergfried tower with 3.5-meter-thick walls. Now municipally owned, the site serves as an event venue and accessible viewpoint reachable by marked paths.
