Burg Naumburg (Gladenbach)
Gladenbach, Germany, Germany
Burg Naumburg (Gladenbach) is a small, vanished hilltop castle ruin from the mid-13th century on the 357-meter Lammerich hill southwest of Gladenbach in Hesse, Germany.
Built around 1249 by Landgravine Sophie of Brabant after destroying the nearby Burg Blankenstein, it served as a strategic counter-fortress overlooking the Salzböde Valley against Mainz forces, featuring an oval enclosure (50x25 meters) with ramparts, ditches, and a central square residential tower, though construction halted after Blankenstein's 1255 reconquest.
Last mentioned early 16th century, only earthworks and faint wall traces remain today amid Gladenbach highlands, accessible via hikes with interpretive signs highlighting its short-lived role in medieval Hessian border conflicts.
