Burg Neu-Elkerhausen
Weinbach, Germany, Germany
Burg Neu-Elkerhausen is a ruined hilltop castle on the Schartenberg near Gräveneck, a district of Weinbach in Hesse's Limburg-Weilburg region, Germany.
Built around 1381-82 as a Diez fief by the robber barons of Elkerhausen after losing their original Alt-Elkerhausen castle, it was destroyed by fire that same year amid feuds with local powers like Hesse, Nassau, and others.
Opposing coalitions formed, but the site saw a counter-castle (Burg Gräveneck) built nearby in 1395, leading to its final conquest and demolition; today, only a ring wall and square bergfried stump remain accessible.
