Burg Neuhaus
Wolfsburg, Germany, Germany
Burg Neuhaus is a well‑preserved medieval water castle in the Neuhaus district of Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany, and one of the city’s most important historic buildings along with Schloss Fallersleben and Schloss Wolfsburg.
It was built around 1371 as a strategically placed stronghold on a sandstone ridge above the Aller valley, originally founded by the Welf duke Magnus the Younger and the city of Braunschweig to secure borders and control an important river crossing. The castle served as a military site until the mid‑16th century, later becoming a ducal administrative office and agricultural estate before being acquired by the city of Wolfsburg in 1981.
Today it functions as a museum that illustrates the medieval foundation of the complex, the lives of its knightly occupants, and the later development of the Neuhaus office, and it is also used for guided tours, events, and educational visits set around its moat and park.
