Burg Polle Schloss
Polle, Germany, Germany
Burg Polle Schloss is the striking hilltop ruin of a former castle in the small Weser‑river town of Polle in Lower Saxony, Germany, built on a steep spur high above the Weser valley.
It was constructed in the 13th century as a stronghold of the counts of Everstein and remained a key seat of power in the Upper Weser region until it was destroyed by Swedish troops during the Thirty Years’ War in 1641.
Today it stands as a partially preserved medieval ruin, with a well‑visible round tower about 20 meters high whose staircase visitors can climb for sweeping views over the river and the forested landscape.
The upper and lower sections of the castle grounds are used in summer as an open‑air venue for theater performances, markets, and festivals, while a small museum in the nearby “Haus des Gastes” presents finds from excavations and stories about life on the former Burg Polle.
