Burg Rauschenberg
Germany, Germany
Burg Rauschenberg is a medieval hill castle ruin perched at around 324-367 meters above the town of Rauschenberg in Hesse's Marburg-Biedenkopf district, Germany, first documented in 1219 under Trier Archbishop Baldwin of Luxembourg amid regional power struggles.
Expanded into a landgrave's palace between 1594 and 1597, it suffered plunder by Swedish troops in 1639 during the Thirty Years' War and deliberate destruction in 1646 by Hessian-Kassel forces, leading to further decay.
The pentagonal complex retains defensive walls, towers, gates, a bergfried foundation, neck ditch, and residential remnants, now accessible via hiking trails as a historical landmark.
