Burg Schadeleben
Schönebeck, Germany, Germany
Burg Schadeleben, also known as Schloss Schadeleben or Burghof Salzelmen, is a castle remnant located at Burghof 1 in Schönebeck (Bad Salzelmen district), Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
Built between 1310 and 1319 by Archbishop Burchard III. of Magdeburg, it was later expanded in a castle-like manner in 1533 and 1804, but most of the structure was demolished in 1874, leaving only a three-story residential house from 1533.
During the Napoleonic occupation in 1806, French Marshal Ney converted it from a forced labor institution into a hospital, releasing all inmates and causing significant damage to its contents. Today, the site features renovated buildings used as a residential property and nursing home, with the original castle layout no longer discernible.
