Burg Schwalbach
Burgschwalbach, Germany, Germany
Burg Schwalbach is a medieval castle located in Burgschwalbach, a small town in the Taunus region of Hesse, Germany.
Built between 1368 and 1371 under Count Eberhard V. von Katzenelnbogen to secure the territory after Emperor Charles IV granted town and fortification rights, it features a prominent 39-meter-high keep behind a shield wall, flanked by residential buildings, a great hall, and a curtain wall with battlements.
The castle changed hands multiple times among noble families like the Eppsteins, Stolbergs, and Counts of Nassau-Weilburg, who renovated it in Renaissance style around 1573, before suffering destruction in the Thirty Years' War in 1622 and partial rebuilding as a domain estate by 1819.
Today, remnants of its Renaissance-era structures, including a main house with a hipped roof and integrated stair tower, highlight its historical role despite later demolitions around 1960.
