Burg Waldsberg (Krumbach)
Sauldorf, Germany, Germany
Burg Waldsberg, also known as Burg Krumbach, in Sauldorf-Krumbach, Germany, is a 13th-century spur castle ruin perched at 645 meters above sea level on a rocky spur overlooking the Krummbach valley near the southwestern edge of Krumbach village.
First documented in 1303 when Burkhard von Waldsberg pledged it to the Bishop of Constance before frequent changes in ownership among local nobles like the Heudorfs and Fürstenbergs, the site featured a main castle with a distinctive 8x8-meter square tower of rusticated limestone blocks up to 6 meters high, ring walls, and a forecourt whose buildings were dismantled by the mid-19th century.
Today, the preserved tower corner with buckled quoins and partial eastern ring wall offer a glimpse of medieval Oberschwaben's fragmented lordships amid hiking paths in the quiet Swabian countryside.
