Burg Wallrabenstein
Hünstetten, Germany, Germany
Burg Wallrabenstein is a small late medieval fortress ruin in the Wallrabenstein district of Hünstetten, in Hesse's Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis, Germany, strategically positioned on a steep rocky spur dropping toward the Wörsbach and Hainbach valleys.
Built between 1390 and 1393 by Count Walram of Nassau-Idstein as a defensive outpost and settlement nucleus, it passed to the von Reiffenberg family in the 15th century, remained inhabited until at least 1549, and fell into decay during the Thirty Years' War.
Constructed from slate stone on a rectangular plan with high ring walls, wehrgänge on round arch friezes, a round bergfried tower, two corner bastions, and a pointed arch gateway flanked by a hexagonal turret, it underwent recent restorations funded by donations and lotteries, with parts now privately owned and partially habitable.
