Burg Wasserburg in Wasserburg am Inn, Germany, is a historic medieval castle likely built in the 11th century, with the first mentions dating back to 1085.

It sits strategically on a hill surrounded by the Inn River, overseeing important trade routes and the salt trade that made the town prosperous. The castle and town were heavily contested, with the castle enduring a 17-week siege in 1247, after which it became part of the Wittelsbach territory for several centuries.

Over time, the castle was expanded and transformed from a fortress into a late Gothic castle with three stories, stair gables, and a chapel dedicated to Saint Giles built in 1465. Various renovations occurred until the 19th century, after which some defensive features were removed. 

Today, Burg Wasserburg remains a prominent landmark reflecting the town’s medieval history, trading legacy, and architectural evolution.
