Burg Wesenberg
Wesenberg, Germany, Germany
Burg Wesenberg in Wesenberg, Germany, is a high medieval motte-and-bailey castle built mid-13th century by Prince Nicholas I of Werle on a hill to protect the town of Wesenberg near the Woblitzsee lake.
Once featuring a water-filled ring ditch fed from the lake, ring wall with buildings, and a prominent bergfried tower (Fangelturm) in the southeast corner, it changed hands during the Markgrafenkriege conflicts and largely burned in 1630.
Today, only the tower—offering panoramic views—and partial ring wall survive amid a park and playground, with the site housing the town’s forestry office, tourist info, local history exhibits on fishing, and public facilities.
