Burggaillenreuth, also known as Gaillenreuth Castle, is a historic hilltop castle located above the Wiesent River in the village of Burggaillenreuth, near Ebermannstadt in Bavaria’s Franconian Switzerland region.

The castle was first recorded in 1122 and was later closely associated with the noble von Egloffstein family, who held and managed the property for centuries. The castle was destroyed during the German Peasants’ War in 1525 and rebuilt, but it suffered further destruction in 1632 during the Thirty Years’ War.

Only part of the fortress was reconstructed afterward, leaving the surviving residential tower and sections of the outer defenses that can still be seen today. Today, Burggaillenreuth remains privately owned and is one of the region’s notable medieval landmarks. Perched high above the valley, its preserved tower and historic structures offer a glimpse into Franconia’s noble past and contribute to the scenic character of the surrounding landscape.
