Burgruine Brunneck is the ruin of a late medieval hilltop castle located near Altdorf, a district of Titting in Bavaria, Germany, within the scenic Altmühltal Nature Park. The castle was built toward the end of the 14th century by the Lords of Heideck as an administrative center and was later sold to the Prince-Bishopric of Eichstätt in 1413, where it was expanded and used as an official residence. The fortress suffered damage during the German Peasants’ War in 1525 and gradually lost its importance. By the 17th century it was mainly occupied by foresters, and after the late 1600s it fell into ruin. Today, visitors can explore the remaining stone walls, defensive ditch, and restored sections of the structure. The site is freely accessible and offers impressive views over the Anlauter Valley and the surrounding countryside. Recent conservation work has helped preserve the ruins and improve visitor access.
