Burgruine Caldern
Lahntal, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Caldern is the ruin of a small medieval spur castle perched at 319 meters above sea level on a steep, wooded spur about 500 meters southwest of Caldern in Lahntal, Marburg-Biedenkopf district, Hesse, Germany.
Founded shortly after 1000 by Count Giso I, likely first in wood and upgraded around 1030 with a stone rectangular tower and mortared ring wall, it was destroyed or abandoned by 1137, with archaeological finds indicating use from the 8th to 11th centuries including pottery, animal bones, and Carolingian artifacts.
Today, remnants of the tower, ring wall, and neck ditch invite free exploration amid forested terrain, offering a quiet glimpse into early medieval fortifications near the Lahn Valley.
