Burgruine Gänseburg Putlitz
Putlitz, Germany
Burgruine Gänseburg in Putlitz, Germany, is a medieval water castle dating back to the 13th century. It served as the seat of the noble Gans family for centuries. The castle originally featured a ring moat supplied by the nearby Stepenitz River, with multiple buildings including a tower keep (bergfried) that was reconstructed in 1890.
Today, only ruins remain, such as the thick west wall, foundations of the palas (main residential building), and remnants of the outer defensive walls made from fieldstones and bricks. Excavations have revealed a vaulted cellar and parts of a defensive tower. The ruins are located in a forested area near the town and are maintained by volunteers to preserve their historic character.
The castle's atmosphere is peaceful and surrounded by nature, with a footpath providing access for visitors.
