Burgruine Hirschburg
Hirschberg an der Bergstraße, Germany
Burgruine Hirschburg in Hirschberg an der Bergstraße, Germany, was a medieval hill castle built in the 12th century by the noble Hirschberg family to control the surrounding region. Located on a forested spur with steep drops on three sides, the castle featured a fortified ring wall and a round bergfried (keep) built of granite rubble, likely added in the 13th century.
After the Hirschberg family died out in the early 13th century, ownership passed to successors who adopted the "von Hirschberg" name. The castle was inhabited until the early 14th century, after which it fell into ruin over time. Today, only remnants of walls and earthworks remain, offering visitors scenic hiking opportunities and a glimpse into the region's medieval past.
