Burgruine Landeck
Schenklengsfeld, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Landeck is a ruined early 12th-century hill castle built by the abbots of Hersfeld Abbey on Landecker Berg, northeast of Oberlengsfeld in Schenklengsfeld, Hersfeld-Rotenburg district, eastern Hesse, Germany.
Constructed to secure abbey lands during feudal tensions, it was destroyed during the 1525 German Peasants' War and left to decay, preserving only faint wall remnants and a bergfried outline amid Rhön volcanic landscapes. Today, the secluded site integrates into local hiking trails near the Mauritiuskirche (12th-century tower church), offering quiet exploration of North Hesse's medieval heritage without facilities.
