Burgruine Lichtenstein is a small medieval hilltop castle ruin located on the Lichtenstein hill, about 260 meters above sea level, between the Osterode am Harz districts of Förste and Dorste in Lower Saxony, Germany.

The site dates back to the 10th or 11th century and was first mentioned in documents in 1404 as property of the dukes of Grubenhagen, who ruled this part of the Harz region. Today only a low circular rampart, a nearly circular moat, and a short section of the old gypsum–sandstone ring wall remain visible, giving a clear outline of the original circular castle layout but no full buildings.

The hill itself is a karst landscape feature made of Lower Bunter sandstone and contains the Lichtenstein Cave, which was discovered in the 1970s and has yielded prehistoric remains from the late Bronze Age.

Because of its compact size, clear medieval traces, and scenic setting in the Harz foothills, the ruin has become a quiet local landmark and a short hiking destination integrated into regional walking routes.
