Burgruine Michelsburg
Haschbach am Remigiusberg, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Michelsburg is a late medieval spur castle ruin atop Remigiusberg hill near Haschbach am Remigiusberg in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate, first mentioned in 1260 after an earlier wooden fort on the site was bought and dismantled by Benedictine monks from Reims' Remigius Abbey around 1127 to build their nearby provost church.
Rebuilt by the Counts of Veldenz with an upper bailey featuring a 20-meter-high, 3.5-4-meter-thick eastern shield wall, 14th-century rounded corners, a probable residential building with stepped gables, northern ring wall remnants, and lower northern Zwinger with gun towers.
it likely fell in the 1688-1697 Palatine War of Succession. Freely accessible amid forested trails, the atmospheric remains overlook the Glan Valley next to the historic abbey inn.
