Burgruine Ruppertsecken
Ruppertsecken, Germany, Germany
Burgruine Ruppertsecken, also known as Raubschloss, is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle on Schlossberg at 498 meters above sea level near the village of Ruppertsecken in Germany's Donnersberg district, Rhineland-Palatinate.
First documented in 1344 under Pfalzgrafen Ruprecht I and II, it changed hands through sales and pledges to families like Landschad von Steinach and von Worms before falling to Duke Stephan of Pfalz-Simmern-Zweibrücken in 1410, then enduring a destructive 1470 siege by Pfalzgraf Friedrich I that left it plundered and forbidden to rebuild.
Today, scant wall remnants and a square water tower from 1889 (rebuilt 1963) remain amid local stone quarrying, rewarding hikers with sweeping panoramic views rivaling nearby Donnersberg, ideal for exploring Pfalz's forested highlands.
