Owned by United Parks & Resorts, it opened in 1959 and now features more than 2,500 animals from hundreds of species, including a 65‑acre Serengeti‑style plain where giraffes, zebras, and rhinos roam in large, open habitats.
The park is famous for its roller coasters such as Montu, Kumba, SheiKra, Tigris, and Iron Gwazi, as well as water rides, live shows, and family‑friendly areas like Sesame Street Safari of Fun. It also includes the Serengeti Railway and Skyride, plus an on‑site animal care centre visitors can watch, making it a combined destination for animal encounters and adrenaline‑filled rides less than an hour from both Orlando and central Tampa.
