Caccamo’s Castle, known as Castello di Caccamo, is one of the largest and best-preserved Norman castles in Sicily.

Built in the 12th century on a steep rocky cliff above the town of Caccamo, it overlooks the surrounding countryside and was an important stronghold controlling routes through the region. The fortress played a significant role in Sicilian history and is famous for the 1160 barons’ conspiracy against King William I of Sicily, which was planned within the castle.

Over the centuries, it was expanded and modified by various noble families, while retaining its imposing medieval character. Today, the castle is open to visitors and features towers, courtyards, historic halls, and panoramic views of the San Leonardo Valley and Lake Rosamarina. It remains one of Sicily’s most iconic medieval landmarks and a symbol of the town of Caccamo.
