Calenberg Castle is a medieval lowland ruin known as Alt Calenberg, located near Pattensen in Lower Saxony, Germany, about 13 km west of Hildesheim.

Constructed in 1292 as a water castle by Welf Duke Otto the Strict in the Leine river meadows on the Calenberg hill's southern slope, it was later fortified into a 16th-century stronghold before falling into decay.

Once central to the Duchy of Calenberg's administration, its remnants today reflect WCalenberg Castle, or Burg Calenberg, was a medieval lowland water castle built in 1292 by Duke Otto the Strict of the Welf dynasty in the Leine river meadows near Pattensen, Lower Saxony, Germany, about 13 km west of Hildesheim.

Positioned on the southern slope of the Calenberg hill between branches of the Leine River, it initially served as a strategic residence and was converted into a fortress in the early 16th century. Now existing primarily as ruins known as Alt Calenberg, the site reflects its historical role in regional power struggles before declining after the 19th century, when nearby Marienburg Castle was constructed.
