Camponeschi Castle, also known as Castel Camponeschi, is a medieval fortified village located near Prata d’Ansidonia in Italy’s Abruzzo region.

Built from the 13th century and expanded in the 15th century, it originally served as the fortified center of the area and later became associated with the powerful Camponeschi family of L’Aquila. Unlike a traditional standalone castle, the complex consists of a walled settlement with houses, palaces, towers, and well-preserved medieval gates.

Its rectangular defensive walls and remaining towers reflect its importance as a strategic stronghold on the Navelli Plateau. The village remained inhabited until the 1960s and has undergone restoration efforts to preserve its historic character. Today, Castel Camponeschi is valued as one of Abruzzo’s most distinctive medieval sites, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the layout and life of a fortified medieval community.
