Canobie Lake Park
Salem, United States
Canobie Lake Park in Salem, New Hampshire, opened in 1902 as a trolley park built by the Massachusetts Northeast Street Railway Company to attract riders. Initially known for its botanical gardens, promenades, and simple recreational activities like canoeing and picnics, the park struggled after the decline of trolley travel and closed briefly in 1929.
It was purchased in 1931 by Patrick J. Holland, who revived the park, adding attractions including the Yankee Cannonball wooden roller coaster in 1936, which remains a popular historic ride. Since 1958, the park has been owned and operated by three local families who expanded its offerings with modern rides and amenities while preserving its nostalgic charm.
Canobie Lake Park continues to be a beloved destination with over 50 rides, family attractions, and seasonal events, combining history, entertainment, and community tradition.
