Caspian Sea Coast (Aktau)

Mangystau Region, Kazakhstan

---

The Caspian Sea Coast around Aktau, in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau Region, is a unique destination where the world’s largest inland body of water meets dramatic desert landscapes.

Aktau, a major port city on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea, is known for its seaside promenades, beaches, rocky coastlines, and beautiful sunsets. The surrounding region is famous for its striking natural scenery, including chalk cliffs, canyons, unusual rock formations, and vast desert plateaus that have often been compared to lunar or Martian landscapes.

These features were shaped over millions of years when the area was covered by the ancient Tethys Ocean. Today, the Caspian Sea Coast is a popular destination for relaxation, water activities, photography, and exploring the remarkable landscapes of Mangystau. Its rare combination of coastal scenery, geological wonders, and cultural heritage makes it one of the most distinctive regions in Kazakhstan.
