Cassero Senese di Grosseto is a medieval fortress built in the 14th century as part of the defensive system of Grosseto during the period of Sienese rule.

It stands within the city walls and is one of the few surviving structures from Grosseto’s medieval fortifications, having been preserved when the walls were rebuilt by the Medici in the 16th century. The fortress is recognizable by its solid rectangular tower, travertine stone construction, and historic gateway known as Porta di Santa Lucia, which once served as a main entrance to the town.

The structure also displays the black-and-white coat of arms of Siena, reflecting its historical origins. Today, the Cassero Senese is one of Grosseto’s most important landmarks, valued for its architectural and historical significance. After restoration, it has become a cultural venue that hosts art exhibitions and events while remaining a prominent feature of the city’s historic walls.
