Castel Dragone, also known as Castello della Dragonara, is a historic seaside fortress perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the harbor of Camogli on the Ligurian coast.

Built between the 11th and 13th centuries, it was created to defend the village from pirate attacks and other threats arriving by sea, while also serving as a lookout point and refuge for local residents. Over the centuries, the castle was repeatedly damaged, expanded, and rebuilt during conflicts involving the Republic of Genoa and rival powers.

It later lost its military role and was used for various purposes, including as a prison and a civic meeting place. Today, Castel Dragone is one of Camogli’s most recognizable landmarks. It hosts cultural events and exhibitions and offers spectacular views of the Ligurian Sea, the colorful waterfront, and the Gulf of Paradise, making it a popular attraction for visitors interested in both history and scenery.
