Castel Gavone
Italy, Italy
Castel Gavone is a historic medieval fortress overlooking Finalborgo, a district of Finale Ligure in Liguria.
Built from the 12th century onward, it served as the main residence and stronghold of the powerful Del Carretto family, rulers of the Marquisate of Finale. The castle was expanded over the centuries and became famous for its distinctive Torre dei Diamanti (Tower of Diamonds), an outstanding example of late medieval military architecture.
Although much of the fortress was damaged and dismantled after Genoese conquest in the early 18th century, its impressive ruins remain a major landmark, offering visitors a glimpse into Liguria’s feudal past and sweeping views of the surrounding countryside and coast.
