Castel Manfrino is a medieval castle ruin located near Valle Castellana in Abruzzo, within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park.

Built between the 12th and 13th centuries on the remains of an earlier Roman fortification, it occupied a strategic position overlooking important mountain routes connecting Ascoli Piceno and Teramo. The castle is traditionally associated with Manfred of Swabia, son of Emperor Frederick II, from whom it takes its name.

It served as a lookout and defensive stronghold, helping control travel and military movement through the rugged mountain region and working in conjunction with nearby fortifications such as the Fortress of Civitella del Tronto. Today, only the ruins remain, standing on a dramatic rocky spur above the surrounding valleys. The site is valued for its historical significance, scenic setting, and panoramic views of the Abruzzo mountains, making it a fascinating destination for history enthusiasts and hikers alike.
