Castel Mareccio in Bolzano, Italy, dates back to the 12th century with its oldest part, the massive keep, built in 1194 by Berthold von Maretsch. Originally a medieval fortress overseeing vineyards and land routes, it was expanded and transformed into a Renaissance residence in the 16th century under the Römer family, who added four round towers and decorated the interior with frescoes.

Over centuries, it passed through noble families and was used for various purposes including as a weapons depot and state archive. Restored in the 1980s, today it serves as a cultural and event venue hosting concerts, exhibitions, and weddings, preserving its historical charm and artistic heritage with notable frescoes and elegant architecture.

Surrounded by vineyards with views of the South Tyrolean Alps, the castle is a key landmark reflecting Bolzano’s rich medieval and Renaissance history.
