Castel Trauttmansdorff is a historic castle located on the outskirts of Merano in South Tyrol, northern Italy.

Its origins date back to around 1300, and over the centuries it was expanded and transformed by several noble families, particularly the Trauttmansdorff family, from whom it takes its name. The castle is especially famous for its connection to Empress Elisabeth of Austria, known as Sisi, who stayed there during visits to Merano in the late 19th century.

Her presence helped increase the town’s reputation as a fashionable spa destination. Today, Castel Trauttmansdorff is best known for its spectacular botanical gardens, which cover around 12 hectares and feature plants from around the world. The castle itself houses the Touriseum, South Tyrol’s Museum of Tourism, making the site a unique combination of history, culture, and natural beauty.
