Castello Aragonese di Baia is a massive fortress overlooking the Gulf of Pozzuoli from a dramatic hilltop in Bacoli, within the Campi Flegrei area.

Built by the Aragonese in 1495 and later expanded by the Spanish in the 16th century, it occupied a highly strategic position that allowed control of the surrounding coastline and sea routes. The castle was constructed on the remains of an ancient Roman complex, possibly linked to a villa associated with Julius Caesar. 

Over the centuries, it served as a military stronghold, prison, and government facility, reflecting the changing history of the Kingdom of Naples and southern Italy. Today, the fortress is home to the Archaeological Museum of the Campi Flegrei, which displays important artifacts from nearby ancient sites such as Baia, Cumae, and Pozzuoli. Visitors are drawn by its rich history, impressive architecture, and panoramic views across the bay and surrounding volcanic landscape.
