Castello Caldoresco is a historic fortress in the heart of Vasto, overlooking the Adriatic coast in Italy’s Abruzzo region.

Built in the early 15th century by the military leader Giacomo Caldora on the site of an earlier fortification, it became one of the town’s most important defensive structures. The castle played a significant role in the region’s history, surviving sieges, attacks, and later modifications by the powerful d’Avalos family.

Its architecture combines medieval and Renaissance military features, including a central courtyard, strong walls, and distinctive cylindrical towers. Today, Castello Caldoresco remains one of Vasto’s best-known landmarks. Situated on a promontory with views of the sea and historic town center, it is valued for its architectural heritage and its connection to the centuries-long history of Vasto. The castle is privately owned and is generally not open to the public.
