Castello Dal Pozzo
Province of Novara, Italy, Italy
Castello Dal Pozzo is a historic castle located in the village of Oleggio Castello in the Province of Novara, Piedmont, Italy, near Lake Maggiore. Its origins date back to the early medieval period, around the 10th to 11th century, when it was originally built by the noble Visconti family, who played a significant role in the political and territorial expansion of Milan.
The castle was strategically important and underwent many changes over centuries, including restorative efforts by the Visconti d’Aragona family in the 16th century. In the 19th century, Marquis Claudio Dal Pozzo commissioned a comprehensive renovation of the castle in the Gothic Revival style, led by British architect Richard Popwell Pullan, giving it its current distinctive neo-Gothic Tudor appearance.
The estate features impressive towers, arches, stained-glass windows, frescoes, and English gardens, making it one of Italy's finest examples of Neo-Gothic architecture. Today, Castello Dal Pozzo operates as a luxurious five-star resort managed by the Dal Pozzo family descendants, maintaining its rich heritage and offering an elegant destination near the scenic Lake Maggiore. The castle blends centuries of history with modern hospitality, drawing visitors interested in culture, architecture, and exclusive stays.
