Castello Della Paneretta
Barberino Tavarnelle, Metropolitan City of Florence, Italy, Italy
Castello della Paneretta is a historic castle in the Chianti Classico region near Barberino Tavarnelle, set among the rolling hills overlooking the Val d’Elsa and San Gimignano.
Originally built as a watchtower and fortified stronghold after the destruction of the nearby Castle of Cepparello in 1260, it became an important defensive site along the border between Florence and Siena. During the 16th century, the fortress was transformed into an elegant country residence by the Capponi family.
Large windows, decorative features, and frescoes by the artist Bernardino Poccetti were added, turning the castle into a refined noble villa while preserving much of its medieval character. Today, Castello della Paneretta is renowned for its history, architecture, and wine production. The estate remains closely linked to the Chianti Classico tradition, combining centuries-old heritage with vineyards and wineries that make it one of the most notable wine estates in Tuscany.
