Castello della Pietra d'Amico
Italy, Italy
Castello della Pietra d'Amico is a ruined medieval castle located near Alessandria della Rocca in Sicily.
Built in the 14th century on top of a large limestone rock, it occupied a strategic position overlooking the surrounding countryside and was an important local stronghold during the Middle Ages. The site may have been occupied even earlier, with evidence suggesting Byzantine and later Arab presence before the medieval castle was constructed.
In the 16th century, the estate came into the possession of the Barresi family, who played a key role in the founding of nearby Alessandria della Rocca. Over time, part of the rock supporting the fortress collapsed, leaving only fragments of walls, stairways, and other remains. Today, despite its ruined condition, the castle remains an important historical landmark and offers a glimpse into Sicily’s medieval past, set against the scenic backdrop of the surrounding hills and reservoir.
