Castello di Acquafredda is a medieval hilltop fortress located near Siliqua in southwestern Sardinia.

Perched on a volcanic hill overlooking the Cixerri Valley, it was an important strategic stronghold and is traditionally associated with Count Ugolino della Gherardesca, although the castle existed before he acquired it in the 13th century. Over the centuries, the castle passed from the Pisans to the Aragonese and later to various feudal lords.

As its military importance declined, it was gradually abandoned during the early 15th century and eventually fell into ruin. Today, the remains of its towers, walls, and cisterns still dominate the landscape, offering visitors spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Castello di Acquafredda is considered one of Sardinia’s most impressive medieval monuments and a symbol of the island’s rich historical heritage.
