Castello di Bominaco
Bominaco, Italy
Castello di Bominaco is a medieval castle located in Bominaco, in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy.
It is built on a plateau overlooking the Navelli valley and was originally constructed in the 12th century. The current structure dates mainly from the 15th century after the castle was destroyed in 1424 by Braccio da Montone and rebuilt by the local feudal lord Cipriano di Iacobuccio with the permission of Pope Martin V.
The castle has a trapezoidal layout with square towers and a prominent cylindrical tower at the narrow end designed for defense. It was strategically placed to protect the nearby complex that includes the church of Santa Maria Assunta and the Oratory of San Pellegrino.
Today, the castle's ruins offer panoramic views of the surrounding valley and stand as a testament to its historical and architectural significance in the Abruzzo region.
