Castello di Bugnara, also known as the Rocca dello Scorpione, is a medieval fortress located in the upper part of the historic village of Bugnara in Italy’s Abruzzo region.

Built in a strategic position overlooking the Sagittario Valley, it was originally designed to control important routes through the surrounding mountains and valleys. The castle dates back to the medieval period and was modified over the centuries by various noble families, including the powerful Di Sangro family.

Repeated earthquakes caused significant damage, leaving much of the original fortress in ruins, although parts of its walls, towers, and defensive structures still survive. Today, the castle remains one of Bugnara’s most important landmarks and a symbol of the village’s history. Visitors are drawn by its historic atmosphere, panoramic views, and the charm of the surrounding medieval town, which is recognized as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages.
