Castello di Buronzo is a remarkable medieval castle complex in the village of Buronzo, in Italy’s Piedmont region.

First mentioned in historical records in 1039, it developed into a rare “consortium castle,” where several branches of the noble Buronzo family lived within a shared fortified settlement protected by walls, towers, and strongholds. Because of its strategic location, the castle was involved in conflicts between powerful regional families and states during the Middle Ages.

Over time, it expanded with new defensive structures, elegant residences, and distinctive architectural features, before gradually losing its military importance. Today, the restored complex remains one of the largest and most unusual castle sites in Italy, preserving medieval streets, towers, and historic buildings that offer visitors a fascinating glimpse into the region’s feudal past.
