Castello di Campo Ligure, also known as Castello Spinola, is a medieval fortress overlooking the town of Campo Ligure in Liguria’s Stura Valley.

Its origins date back to the 12th and 13th centuries, although an earlier defensive tower may have existed on the site. The castle was built to guard important trade routes and protect the valley from attacks. The fortress is notable for its distinctive defensive layout, including strong stone walls, towers, and a central keep. In the 14th century, it came under the control of the powerful Spinola family, who used it as both a stronghold and a residence while overseeing the surrounding territory.

After centuries of military use, the castle was eventually abandoned and fell into decline. Extensive restoration work in the late 20th century preserved the structure, and today it is one of Campo Ligure’s most important landmarks, offering visitors insight into the region’s medieval history and commanding views of the valley.
