Castello di Capua is a historic castle in the hilltop town of Gambatesa, in Italy’s Molise region.

Originally built as a medieval fortress in a strategic position overlooking important routes between Molise and Puglia, it was transformed during the Renaissance into an elegant noble residence by the powerful Di Capua family, who acquired it in 1484. The castle combines medieval defensive features with Renaissance architectural elements, including refined windows, a decorative loggia, and richly furnished rooms.

Its greatest treasure is a remarkable cycle of 16th-century Mannerist frescoes painted by Donato Decumbertino, which depict mythological, biblical, and allegorical scenes celebrating the virtues and prestige of the Di Capua family. Today, Castello di Capua is one of the most important cultural landmarks in Molise. Visitors are drawn by its well-preserved architecture, impressive frescoes, and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, making it a fascinating blend of history, art, and regional heritage.
